Charts and Graft
I think we need a think piece on "thought leaders." (Say that 3 times fast.) The term didn't seem to exist until five years ago, and now it's a rare week when my LinkedIn feed isn't filled with posts from "influencer ninja evangelists" or whatever their impossibly long taglines say.
Granted, there are occasionally some unique insights to be heard in their TedX talks and more often motivational boosts to be enjoyed from their meme-able posts. But the quest for instant insights and viral "engagements" can lead to some really vapid "frameworks." Add the growth of DIY data visualization and it's a recipe for head-scratching graphics.
The company that produces one of my favorite newsletters at the moment - CBInsights - is compiling a list of these forehead-slapping deck slides. CBInsights is a news and data aggregation platform covering the comings and goings of the startup scene and the Venture Capital, Private Equity and other deals that support it. Basically, a competitor to Pitchbook and some legacy platforms like Bloomberg, Dun and Bradstreet, etc. I can't vouch for CBInsight's product, but I sure hope they keep their "course focus" wheel steered toward more irreverent content like this for their "people/customer tires."
